5 Ways To Make Your Home Smell Amazing!

There is something about a nice smelling home that makes it more appealing – it is relaxing, it is pampering, and it just feels ‘homey’. No matter how tired you are from your day’s work, just walking into your home and basking in the smell of fresh, exhilarating scents can relax you like nothing else can.

A good-smelling home feels cleaner, uplifts the mood of the family, and is a natural aromatherapy.  Here are some tips to make your house smell refreshingly good.

1.    Eliminate the Bad

If your house smells bad, using a scent to hide bad odors is not going to solve your problem. As soon as the scent’s potency wears out, the stench returns with a vengeance. So, first things first – eliminate all bad odors.

Bad odors could originate from anything – your dirty clothes, your ventilation systems, the garbage disposal, the fridge, and even the carpet. Identify every source of bad odor. Clean it thoroughly. For carpets, vacuuming at least twice a week and professional cleaning once a year is essential. Use carpet powders to deodorize. Place an open box of baking soda in the fridge and discard left overs regularly. Clean your garbage disposal by grinding lemons, white vinegar, and ice cubes. Find the source of all bad odors and eliminate it.

2.    Bring Nature Home

Don’t you just love the smell of nature? Even a short hike through the wilderness or a visit to a botanical garden can titillate our olfactory nerves and we feel renewed. We all love the touch of nature. So, why not bring it inside?

There are dozens of garden variety and indoor plants and flowers whose scent can give air fresheners a run for their money. Gardenia, lilac, eucalyptus, jasmine, orchids, and many other plants will liven up your home with their fragrance in the most natural way.

3. Use Candles and Wax Melts

Candles are an obvious way to make your home smell sweet. Place candles and wax burners throughout the house and burn them often. Today, scented candles and wax melts are available in a multitude of fragrant varieties. Whether you want your home to smell like a lemon farm, a coffee plantation, a tropical island, or something else, all you need to do is light up the right candle or burn the wax melt. It’s that simple.

4. Create a Signature Home Smell

You know what’s better than a great-smelling home? A great-smelling home with a signature scent. A scent that feels yours. A scent that you can call home. Of course, you don’t have to stick to a single smell. Try combining your favorite scents to make your own signature scent. Take 2 of your favorite soy wax melts and melt them together in a warmer to create a unique scent. Using scents from the same family usually works best. For example, 2 floral scents, or 2 fruity scents such as Jamaica Me Crazy and Lime Cilantro.

5.  Make Your Own Deodorizers

Make your own air freshener. Use a spray bottle of ¾ cup of white vinegar, ¾ cup of water and 20 drops of your favorite essential oils to spray into the air to kill odors fast. The vinegar will eliminate the odor and the essential oils will help fragrant the air.

Use dryer sheets in your closets and drawers. They’ll keep your clothes smelling fresh for 2 weeks.

Clip a car air freshener to the heating and air-conditioning vents inside your home. The hot or cold air will distribute the aroma throughout each room.

There are many tips and tricks for making your home smell amazing. Experiment with what works best for you and your home. What matters most is that your home is a loving, relaxing environment that you and your family both enjoy and want to spend time in.
